Perfect as a stand alone for running or as a base layer for slower, colder activities. I also like the subtle color blend.

Smartwool delivers a great product every time you want soft warmth and durability. This crew shirt is perfect for layering, but attractive enough to wear solo. The feel is soft and comfortable. Wool often irritates my skin, but this shirt is comfortable for mel

The is a great and comfortable base layer. Great length in the arms and body and has kept me to the right temperature during hiking and snowboarding. It is slightly see-through, this top would be best with a suitable underwear or t-shirt over the top.

Bought the berry colored 250 long sleeve top and it is fabulous. First thought after putting it on was “I have to get more!!!!” I am long and lean and this fits me perfectly (5’11”, 145, long arms and torso, AA chest). I bought the medium. Have it on now. Not scratchy, toasty, awesome arm length and torso (this will be very long on you if you are short! Maybe they make a petite) and flattering. As I said in review the color is fabulous! Haven’t washed it yet but I’m sure if I stick to cold and no dryer it will be fine. I have loads of other wool pieces so no special needs… Can wear it by itself or as a base layer… Nothing not to love!

Very soft and warm. True to size. I use it for skiing and it is amazing

This top is amazing. I am the coldest person on the planet in the winter. You won’t even see me wear short sleeves until the weather is consistently in the high 70’s. I now have thee of these tops and absolutley LOVE them. I wear them as a stand alone shirt, with a down vest or under a fleece top. Its breathable if you are active yet warm if you are not quite so active. The top is soft and has a nice shape. Wishing I had seen the new striped tops before I bought my last one. So cute!

Wore my new smart wool shirt on trip to Iceland, perfect weight. Could live in these- so completely comfortable.

I used this crew for my base layer on my thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. It is an extremely versatile shirt and wicks away moisture without leaving a bad odor compared to synthetic shirts. Even though it is merino wool (which I thought would be hot) I initially thought I would only use it in the cooler months of my hike. I actually used it through the entire hike as it was soft and comfortable.
Upon returning home, I wear it all the time! I love the softness of the merino wool, how easy it is to care for (it doesn’t shrink in the dryer) and how great it looks. I have bought more of these crew shirts and will continue to do so. Thanks Smartwool for making such a fabulous product!

I work outside year ’round on a farm in a place where it’s quite windy and winter temperatures are frequently sub-zero. While I admit the price point made my heart skip a beat I can now say these are worth EVERY penny you spend on them. Super soft, great fitting under my shirts with full range of motion for everything from throwing bales to wrangling animals, excellent shape retention, wear like iron, and the warmth and/or breathability is unparalleled. I get in the house from working outside and I don’t want to take them off. They’re just that nice. Plus they’ve got some cute designs and colors. I’ll be slowly trading out every other brand I own and getting more of these. Smartwool has definitely won a customer for life!

Love smartwool. These base layers are so pretty. Can be worn alone or underneath for added warmth! Washes up nice too.

Got a small and it fits just right. Super comfortable and warm for my outdoor runs here in frosty Michigan.

I’ve owned SmartWool’s crewneck 250 weight base layers for years; over the last 10 years or so, each iteration is less durable, less comfortable and less effective weight-wise than the previous. I ordered 4 of these shirts recently and the sizing has been supersized, the tailoring varies from shirt to shirt,, one shirt has an odd sleeve that is 1 inch longer than the other sleeve, the fabric is less comfortable and the shaping around the armpits is bunchy. I prefer the old crew neckline that had edging that was less thick/wide with minimal stitching. The baselayers I own from 10+ years ago are frayed but I prefer them for comfort and warmth over the ones that are newer. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily innovative or an improvement. I want a weighty 100% wool baselayer that is durable, comfortable, has a solid, thin edge neckline that is more straight with less scoop, and sleeves that don’t bunch under the arms. These shirts are expensive and should have the attention to detail that makes them worth the price. Thank you for considering my comments.

I wore this shirt several nights in a row while backpacking and camping on the Pacific Crest Trail. It is comfortable, very warm, and stayed smelling pretty fresh. I also love the teal color. I am usually a small and the small fit well.
Avalee –
Love! The sleeves are a bit long but I am also a bit short. Warm and stylish.

This base layer is wonderfully warm.

I used the matching top and bottom to go snow hiking in Korea- I only needed this one layer under pants and a jacket and was warm even in heavy wind!
Ladan –
I was able to wear it two days in a row. Kept me warm and dry, best base layer
Ava –
The arms are a bit long for me but the shirt is so comfortable I can wear it day after day.
Cristina –
I use this as a base layer under my regular shirt. This keeps me so warm, and the material is so soft!
Wendy –
Great layer for cold mornings under tee shirt- have 5 of them- love them- just the right weight and fabric
Kayla –
Perfect weight merino for keeping you warm and dry while out in the cold. Very soft and not scratchy at all like some merino.
Mary –
Great for skiing, hiking or everyday use really. Great quality and fit
Barbara –
I wear it as a base layer when I’m out in the garage for an extended period of time in the Winter.
Kathy –
I love this base layer. It is light enough that it didn’t feel bulky under my sweaters, but it really keeps me warm.
